SOUND RADIATION AND NOISE CONTROL

Because noise is an unwanted sound, the same mathematical techniques and physics are applicable to both.


The noise of a hard disk drive may be significantly reduced by a drive cover with optimal thickness. We have developed a new approach to evaluate optimal cover thickness.

Determination of the sound radiation from a vibrating body is difficult because a small portion of vibration (with a smooth, piston-like shape and small amplitude) possesses maximal radiation efficiency. Most standard numerical codes cannot overcome this obstacle. Our semi-analytical approach provides correct radiated sound energy and significantly reduces computational time.
